~A bit of mending, feeding the birds, baking and outdoor decorating ~
Farewell deare November ~ 11/30/2023
Glad Tidings deare friends. I hope this day finds you in goode health and grand spirits. I am seated at the dining room table, the woodstove burning softly to my left, the sun shining through the large front window to my right ~ birds are aflutter, hoping from basket to basket (there are now three on the front porch…when I started feeding them this year I told myself I would only fill one basket…… eye-roll inserted here)……. Excuse me a moment while I give my bread dough a quick stretch and fold and tend the fire… As I was saying, the birds are enjoying their breakfast making great use of the grapevine and bittersweet I have placed (stung/hung??) along the front of the porch.
At one point yesterday, there must have been thirty or more birds fluttering, eating, and perching. This video was taken yesterday ~ look at that gorgeous snow falling and just listen to those happy birds :). I love it. Though the grapevine and bittersweet say Autumn to me, I am determined to leave them through the winter. Today and tomorrow, I am adding pine roping above the steps and Bay Leaf branches, which I was THRILLED to
find at the hardware store yesterday, among the Bittersweet and Grapevine. I am usually more of a minimalist outdoor decorator, preferring simple unadorned wreaths and candlelights for the front windows…. I am hoping my ideas come together with a simple rustic look rather than a hodgepodge of things… :)
WHAT DO YOU DO FOR OUTDOOR DECORATIONS?
Last evening, after spending the day gathering and foraging…by this I mean, my sister and I did a bit of Christmas shopping and went to lunch, during which time we gathered pine roping, bay leaves, and wreaths and foraged for special gifts :)… I settled myself by the fire and did a bit of mending. I purchased these hand knit gloves, oh gosh perhaps ten years ago, at the Washington County Sheep and Wool Festival, and just love them. They have held up incredibly well considering I wear them from October to March every time I step out the door. Last night I finally got around to repairing them and I am quite pleased with how well they took to being repaired. I repaired each worn area then because I love wool “patches”, I added one to each worn/repaired area. I need to finish the second one which I will do later this evening. I love mending and giving new life to a well-loved item, for me, it is so much more ….soulful…. than just replacing it with something new.
ARE YOU A MENDER OF THINGS OR A REPLACER (no judgment here, I use to always replace and only started mending a few years ago).
Off I go to give my dough another stretch and fold and work on my fire. I was going to let it die down and just restart it later but then I realized I can not do that when I have bread rising….. And of course, it is hassling me now and doesn’t want to get going…
FAREWELL DEARE NOVEMBER ~ SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!
Enjoy the day friends ~ be well, Doreen
